It has been said, “the love of family makes life beautiful” and I have never believed in those words more than when witnessing the love, support, and energy that was poured in to Jan and Brent’s wedding day on Saturday. From the moment I walked into her hotel room in the morning, Jan was surrounded by love. Friends and family filled the room with laughter. At their home, Brent spent the morning getting ready with his brother-in-law/best man and two nephews. From morning til night, there wasn’t a moment that Brent and Jan weren’t surrounded by the love of their family. And I don’t think they’d have it any other way.
Due to an early setting sun and a late ceremony start time, Jan and Brent decided to do a first look before the ceremony and I’m so glad they did! I absolutely loved this intimate moment between them before the craziness of the day began!
Brent’s daughter, Gracie, had been talking about seeing her daddy all day, so after Jan and Brent’s first look, we had Gracie come in for a first look of her own!
After the first looks we went outside and braved the chilly wind for some portraits of Brent and Jan and the rest of the small wedding party. Their big day truly was a family affair with Jan’s sister as the matron of honor, their brother-in-law as the best man, their adorable nephews as the ring bearers, and, most importantly, Brent’s daughter Gracie serving as an absolutely gorgeous flower girl.
Jan and the rest of her family lost a huge, loving presence in their lives when her father passed in January. Jan carried him with her on her wedding day with his wedding band tied around her bouquet.
When it came time for the ceremony, The Barn at the Backwoods served as a beautiful backdrop for their vows. It was an emotional moment for everyone as Jan and her mom made their way down the aisle to join the man waiting to take her hand in marriage at the end.
Jan’s oldest cousin officiated the wedding and, in addition to Brent and Jan exchanging rings and vows, Jan and Gracie also exchanged vows as they officially became mother and daughter.
With the ceremony and all group pictures behind them, it was officially party time! After a welcome prayer and dinner, the best man and matron of honor brought the house to tears of laughter with a combined toast highlighting the very best aspects of Jan and Brent’s relationship.
Following the cake cutting, Jan and Brent opened up the dance floor with their first dance, a daddy-daughter dance between Brent and Gracie, Jan’s dance with her mother, and Brent’s dance with his mother.
As their family and friends joined them on the dance floor, the DJ turned down the lights and turned up the fog – and Jan and Brent quite literally danced the night away.
Jan and Brent – Being a part of your special day was such an honor! Thank you so much for allowing Blake and I to document your love and commitment to each other! It was so much fun getting to know the two of you and the rest of your family and friends – I only hope I was able to capture a fraction of the love that filled your wedding day!
