Engagement sessions in April in Ohio are always a roll of the dice. You could get beautiful, balmy weather with sunshine and blossoms filling the air or you could get cold, biting winds and empty, dead-looking trees surrounding you. Jan and Brent’s engagement session at the Scioto Mile on Sunday was a mix of both. The sun was bright and inviting, but the cold wind that accompanied it was enough to keep us continuously moving.
We met along the Scioto Mile Sunday evening for a sunset engagement shoot. Although the Scioto Mile is currently under construction, we were able to find a few beautiful trees in full bloom to add some color to our evening. Additionally, there are some absolutely gorgeous buildings along that stretch of the Scioto Mile that not only provided some great backdrops, but also shelter from the wind.
As we walked around the area, it was such a pleasure to get to know Jan and Brent better. Talking about Brent’s daughter and Jan’s nephews, it was obvious that family means a lot to them, and their wedding in November is going to be a wonderful family affair. And although the wind was chilly and by the end of the night, all of our hands were purple, I was thankful for it because it allowed me to witness (and capture) the way that Jan snuggles into Brent for warmth and gave me just a glimpse of the tenderness between them.
We ended the night on the bridge at sunset with more snuggling. As a photographer, I consider that the perfect way to end anything. Totally worth the frozen fingers.
