Luke and Hannah met through their church and, although he lives 1,000 miles away in Oklahoma, their faith has kept them close and allowed their relationship to blossom. Love is often described as friendship that caught fire and with Luke and Hannah that could not be more accurate. These two are perfect together – their love for their families, passion for the beliefs they share, and the friendship that cements together are inspiring and admirable. And every conversation, private joke, and tender moment they’ve shared in their relationship led up to the moment last Thursday night when Luke dropped to one knee and asked Hannah to become his wife.
When Luke first emailed me letting me know that he was planning on proposing to Hannah and wanted me there to capture the big moment, I might have literally squealed out loud. As a wedding photographer I get to be around engaged couples all the time, but I don’t normally get to be a part of the proposal itself!
Because he’s a few states away we came up with a time, a location, and a plan over the course of 2 and a half weeks and 42 emails. There were some hiccups along the way – first we couldn’t find the perfect location, then we needed to reschedule, then we rescheduled again – and at one point I found myself drawing a game plan down on a satellite image of the Scioto Mile like a weird combination of 007 and John Madden.
When Thursday night finally rolled around, all of the planning paid off when Luke and Hannah strolled into Bicentennial Park along the Scioto Mile. Luke asked the biggest question of both of their lives. And she said yes.
And when I asked if she was up for an impromptu engagement shoot to celebrate the proposal, she said yes again.
Luke and Hannah – thank you times a million for letting me capture such a special moment in your lives! You two are the sweetest couple and I cannot wait to photograph your special day in September! I know that you have a lot of wedding planning to do, but remember to slow down and enjoy this stage in your relationship – the big day will be here before you know it!
Keep smiling!
Kaylina
