One of my favorite things about wedding photography is that every single wedding we attend is different. Each couple infuses their day with personal details and traditions that transform their wedding into something truly unique. Sami and Corey’s wedding day last Saturday at Dawes Arboretum was an amazing celebration of their love and relationship that was, at its essence, completely Sami and Corey. From her stunning red dress, to the 1950’s inspired vintage jewelry she donned, to the victory rolls and dresses of her amazing bridesmaids, Sami effortlessly captured a style and attitude all her own.
We started the morning at the house of one of Sami’s bridesmaids in Pataskala, Ohio. The gorgeous backyard was a beautiful backdrop to photograph Sami’s bridal details. Her earring, bracelets, and necklace were on point and her black Betsey Johnson flats were amazing, but nothing compares to Sami’s red dress. Designed by the bride herself and brought to life by Henri’s Bridal, this dress was STUNNING. Just wait til you see her in it 😉
We slipped out into the 90 degree heat for a first look between Sami and Corey. They exchanged letters to each other in the shade before we explored the grounds of Dawes Arboretum for some bride and groom portraits.
The ceremony was held in Bertie’s Garden on the grounds of Dawes Arboretum and was a beautiful backdrop for an intimate, unplugged ceremony. Sami and Corey’s touches of personality extended to the ceremony where they had a friend officiate the ceremony and had their dogs walk down the aisle as the four legged maid-of-honor and best man. Instead of a usual candle lighting/sand pouring/knot tying unity ceremony, Sami and Corey drank their favorite bourbon together and promised to always love and support each other through the good times and the hangovers.
During the ceremony we observed a moment of silence for Sami’s friend, Katelyn, who was the 5th bridesmaid there in spirit. Katelyn passed away last June after a battle with HLH. I never had the pleasure of meeting Katelyn, but it is obvious by the lives she touched and the care Sami took to include Katelyn in her wedding, that Katelyn is dearly loved and deeply missed.
After the reception and a few group portraits, everyone headed inside Dawes Arboretum’s visitor center to cool off and party. A Catered Event provided the eats while The Babe Ruthless provided the delicious sweets.
Keep smiling!
