Weekend in Joshua Tree

FILED IN: personal, travel

Last weekend, Blake and I took an impromptu weekend trip to San Diego. We drove up to Joshua Tree National Park and stayed a night there before heading on to Las Vegas for two days before flying home.

Joshua Tree was AMAZING. At times I felt like I was on an alien planet – the trees, the rocks, the plants. We went a little off the beaten path to find some climbing spots for Blake and there were hours where we never saw another person. It was incredible.

The next morning we woke up, had a delicious breakfast at a local cafe, and then hit the road. We took the scenic route to Vegas through the Mojave National Preserve and the adorable little ghost town of Kelso, California.

About 20 minutes outside of Vegas, we looked to our right and saw these large, colorful towers rising out of the desert. A quick Google and a 15 minute detour, we pulled into the small parking lot of Seven Magic Mountains. It was a great way to end our time in the desert.

Admittedly, I have absolutely no nice photos of Vegas. Okay – I got the welcome sign, but that’s about it. Once we were in Sin City, we left the cameras in the hotel room and just explored with our phones. I promise that nothing we saw in Vegas was as pretty or awe-inspiring as our 48 hours in Joshua Tree and the Mojave. We will definitely be returning to the desert again, as soon as possible.

Keep smiling!

Kaylina

P.S. If anyone ever wants to elope or just have an engagement session in the desert – let me know! Elopements and engagements on my photography bucket list are discounted/free!
